Event Name:
Metroquest Webinar: Environmental Justice and Public Engagement

Description:
Join us for an update from the EJ IWG's NEPA Committee, as we explore best practices around engaging the environmental justice community without public meetings.

Public engagement throughout the NEPA review process is critical, during critical periods and beyond. Considerations around equity and diversity have intensified in the 'new normal' as efforts around public engagement for planning move online to stay both safe and effective. But how can agencies and firms meaningfully engage with traditionally underrepresented communities during the pandemic? In this webinar, representatives from the US EPA, FHWA, and Department of Energy on the NEPA Committee of the EJ IWG (Federal Interagency Working Group on Environmental Justice) will take you through promising practices around reaching traditionally underrepresented communities during times of political and social duress, including advice on how to develop a public engagement process for NEPA when disadvantaged communities may not have access to the internet to participate in virtual meetings.

Environmental justice is vital to reaching vulnerable and underrepresented communities. Join us as our panel presents an update from the EJ IWG and the NEPA committee, providing promising practices and thoughts on the evolving practice of meaningful engagement with EJ communities to carry through the current situation and beyond.
