HAUNTED BY HOUSING - Are the CEQA streamlining provisions for infill housing giving you nightmares?
a 2021 AEP Conference Session Webinar*

Friday, October 29, 2021 | Noon-1:30pm

We all know that affordable housing is a major issue in California (and elsewhere), and the tension in CEQA between how easy it is for NIMBYs to stall projects contrasted with the State's goals to hurry up and approve and construct new housing to meet demands and address inequity is a problem that many of us are familiar with. There has been a lot of legislation introduced in recent years (including SB 9 and SB 10 which were just signed by the Governor!) to help address these issues and streamline the CEQA process for infill housing. But navigating this complex web of exemptions and streamlining provisions can be scary and there are several boobytraps to be aware of!

This roundtable discussion, with panelists from all corners of the CEQA world (lead agency staff, developer, CEQA consultant and CEQA lawyer), will focus on strategies for streamlining infill housing projects, common hurdles, and recently passed and pending legislation. Regional hurdles to achieving higher density, such as reconciling the Coastal Act with the Density Bonus Law, will also be addressed. The audience will be encouraged to submit questions in the chat function throughout the session for the moderator to direct to appropriate panel members for real-time response and there’ll be time for open discussion afterwards.
